For the Glory of Christ and For the Joy of All Nations

Point to Ponder

Do not desire crosses unless you have borne well those laid on you; it is an abuse to long after martyrdom while unable to bear an insult patiently.  Francois de Sales

An Introduction to Lent

For some Christians, Lent has always been a part of their spiritual life, but for others it is unfamiliar.

I AM SECOND

Many are the amazing stories of what Christ does in a man or woman who makes Christ first and takes second place. Click here to see and hear stories of how far God will go to raise up the broken-hearted and the out-of-luck. Here is another site where people tell their stories of a fresh start through Jesus Christ.

"Walking the Bible"

Pastor Don has written this introduction to the Bible. Though it was written over a period of 1500 years by 40+ different authors in two different languages, it amazingly tells one story. While many might remember a verse here or there or a Bible episode they can recall, it remains true that most people have just never heard of the bigger picture and the basic theme that holds all the books of the Bible together as one story. Go here to read online or download a copy.

Spring Green Church and the Bible

At the center of the SGMC community is the Bible. Our belief is that its timeless wisdom is inspired of God and is therefore the sole authority for belief and practice. But what exactly does "inspired of God" mean? Dr RC Sproul unpacks those words in a manner that moves beyond caricatures and stereotypes to demonstrate that the Bible evidences the speaking of God into time and space. The Bible is not a record of people's best thoughts about God or a record of their search for God. It is a deposit of truth from God. FIXED-HOUR PRAYER

Often called the Liturgy of the Hours or Fixed-Hour Prayer, has been a part of both Judaism and Christianity. It is often associated with the Roman Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican communions but increasingly is a part of the Protestant stream of faith in its appreciation of its ancient roots. When the Psalmist says, "Seven times a day do I praise You,"  he is referring to fixed-hour prayer as it existed in ancient Judaism. With the 24-hour day divided into eight cycles Christians have for centuries an eight-rhythmed prayer life. While this fuller time commitment is more applicable to monastery, it has been adapted to the laymen for a morning, noon, vespers and compline(just before retiring) rhythm. You can find more infomation from Pastor Don at http://www.scribd.com/doc/51093747/About-Fixed-Hour-Prayer and you can find prayer for each time of the day at http://www.annarborvineyard.org/tdh/tdh.cfm. As part of his own spiritual disciplines Pastor Don has utilized the Office of the Hours for daily prayer. Phyllis has produced a four volume prayer series titled The Divine Hours.

Pastor Don's Jan 29 message, "From Confusion to Understanding" by Pastor Bryant can be read here. Messages are also recorded and copies can be obtained at the church.

Feb 19 marks the 200th anniversary of the Adoniram and Ann Judson's voyage to India as part of the first missionaries to be sent from North America. Soon settling in Burma, the life and ministry of Adoniram Judson is a stunning story of courage, patient endurance, deep suffering and amazing conversion among the Burmese people. You can click here for an insight into his continuing influence. God's work among the Burmese people intersects Spring Green's ministry through the missionary to Burma, Merrick Streeter, whose daughter became a part of SGMC and coordinated the gift of our church bell to the Burmese church as well as their gift of the cross that is above our baptistry. Soon Pastor Don will take a Sunday to focus on the life of Judson as a transforming lesson in the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

For Men, Thursday Evenings, 7 PM - Rich Austin is leading men in a study of prayer using Philip Yancey's book, PRAYER. Relax from the week's work, learn from God's Word and encourage other men in spiritual growth. Come any time you can.
